OmniTek was founded in 1979 by William Wagelaar and started out as a scientific glassblowing company : Wagelaar Glasinstrumenten (literally Wagelaar Glass Instruments). As a highly skilled glasblower, with many years of experience gained within both industrial and university surroundings, he set out to provide sophisticated and specialized scientific glassware to laboratories and research facilities in The Netherlands and abroad. During the eighties, the company's size and reputation as a problem solver and supplier of quality instruments rapidly grew. Our close contact with our customers enabled us to provide many custom-made solutions to individual problems.

Development

With a keen interest in automation and advanced measuring techniques, we always strived to supply our customers with the latest in technology. Halfway through the nineties, our ever-increasing expertise in the field of analysis techniques and automation led to a gradual shift toward the development and production of advanced, fully automated measuring equipment. Targeting specific niches in the market, such as the plastics and petrochemical industries, this branch of the firm became more and more significant to the company as a whole.
In our traditional market, scientific glassware, important changes were taking place: there was a severe decline in market demand for custom-made glassware. The same automation that we had always advocated and applied in our solutions, had effectively helped in eliminating the usefulness of custom glassware. Automation was entering the laboratories at an unprecedented pace. Secondly, it proved that finding people with the skills and mindset to function as a high-level scientific glassblower, became practically impossible. This accelerated the a.m. shift even further until, at the beginning of 2000, we decided to cease our glass production entirely and further intensify our focus on our analysers. Only a small-scale production of the popular standard vacuum product range "Eurovac" was maintained.
Because of these radical changes, and because our playing field was becoming more and more international, the company's name was changed to OmniTek.
