上海市張江高科技園區(qū)成立于1992年7月，位于浦東新區(qū)中部，規(guī)劃面積25平方公里，分為技術(shù)創(chuàng)新區(qū)、高科技產(chǎn)業(yè)區(qū)、科研教育區(qū)、生活區(qū)等功能小區(qū)。1999年8月，上海市委、市政府頒布了“聚焦張江”的戰(zhàn)略決策，明確園區(qū)以集成電路、軟件、生物醫(yī)藥為主導(dǎo)產(chǎn)業(yè)，集中體現(xiàn)創(chuàng)新創(chuàng)業(yè)的主體功能。自此，張江園區(qū)步入了快速發(fā)展階段。
截止2010年底，園區(qū)進(jìn)駐企業(yè)達(dá)1905家，累計(jì)完成固定資產(chǎn)投資額1239億元。2010年，園區(qū)工業(yè)總產(chǎn)值577.5億元；經(jīng)營總收入1556億元；固定資產(chǎn)投資131億元；吸引投資總額超過150億元，其中吸引合同外資9.5億美元，吸引內(nèi)資企業(yè)注冊資本87.43億元。園區(qū)共有從業(yè)人員17.34萬人（其中博士4288人、碩士27082人、大專以上學(xué)歷100756人）；園區(qū)累計(jì)專利申請數(shù)22215件，專利授權(quán)數(shù)5934件。
經(jīng)過19年的開發(fā)，園區(qū)構(gòu)筑了生物醫(yī)藥創(chuàng)新鏈和集成電路產(chǎn)業(yè)鏈的框架。目前，園區(qū)建有國家上海生物醫(yī)藥科技產(chǎn)業(yè)基地、國家信息產(chǎn)業(yè)基地、國家集成電路產(chǎn)業(yè)基地、 

國家半導(dǎo)體照明產(chǎn)業(yè)基地、國家863信息安全成果產(chǎn)業(yè)化（東部）基地、國家軟件產(chǎn)業(yè)基地、國家軟件出口基地、國家文化產(chǎn)業(yè)示范基地、國家網(wǎng)游動(dòng)漫產(chǎn)業(yè)發(fā)展基地等多個(gè)國家級(jí)基地。在科技創(chuàng)新方面，園區(qū)擁有多模式、多類型的孵化器，建有國家火炬創(chuàng)業(yè)園、國家留學(xué)人員創(chuàng)業(yè)園，一批新經(jīng)濟(jì)企業(yè)實(shí)現(xiàn)了大踏步的飛躍。“自我設(shè)計(jì)、自主經(jīng)營、自由競爭”和“鼓勵(lì)成功、寬容失敗”的園區(qū)文化和創(chuàng)業(yè)氛圍正逐漸形成。 

上海張江（集團(tuán)）有限公司（以下簡稱“張江集團(tuán)”）成立于1992年7月28日，是一家全資國有企業(yè)。作為推動(dòng)上海張江高科技園區(qū)發(fā)展的重要載體，張江集團(tuán)在營造園區(qū)綜合配套環(huán)境、提升園區(qū)自主創(chuàng)新能力、促進(jìn)戰(zhàn)略性新興產(chǎn)業(yè)發(fā)展等方面不懈努力。 
截止2010年底，張江集團(tuán)總資產(chǎn)規(guī)模規(guī)模421億人民幣，長期股權(quán)投資企業(yè)55家，其中包括于1996年在上海證券交易所上市的上海張江高科技園區(qū)開發(fā)股份有限公司（簡稱“張江高科”，股票代碼：600895）。

Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park was established on July 28, 1992 as China's state-level high-tech industrial development zone. After seventeen years of accumulation and development, Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park, through providing high value-added products and services with innovative core technologies to progressively replace the life cycle of traditional industries, represents the revolutionary transformation trend of China’s economic development pattern.
Taking "Integration and Innovation" as the development axis, "resource integration control" and "service integration innovation" as the driving force, the park is presenting five kinds of development status including focalizing national strategies, integrating industry development, promoting R&D collaboration, innovating developing modes and leading the cutting edge technology..
After 14 years of development, the Park has established a framework for biomedicine industry and information industry chain and innovation chain. 

A number of national industry bases including Shanghai National Biomedical Industry Base, National Information Industry Base, National Integrated Circuit Industry Base, Semiconductor Lighting Industrial Base, National 863 Project China Eastern Information Security Industry Park (CEISIP), National Software Industry Base, National Software Export Base, National Culture Industry Example Base, and National Network Game and Animation Industry Base have been established at the Park so far.In respect of scientific innovation, the Park is equipped with incubators of various modes and types and has national incubators and national pioneering park for overseas Chinese students and scholars established here. A number of new economy based enterprises at the Park have made great progress. A park culture and innovation atmosphere of “self-design, self-operate and free competition” and “Encourage success and tolerate failure” is coming into being.
